The Jaisalmer Overnight Tour is designed for travellers with limited time who still want to see both sides of the Golden City: the sandstone lanes of the old town and the open dunes of the Thar Desert. Over two days you visit Jaisalmer Fort, the carved facades of Patwon Ki Haveli and the ghats of Gadisar Lake, then drive out to the Sam Sand Dunes for sunset and a night at a desert camp.
It works well as a stopover between Jodhpur and Bikaner, as a short break for couples and friends, or as a first look at Jaisalmer for families who plan to come back for longer. Because the plan is compact, we keep driving time sensible and leave room for meals and rest. Your taxi service in Jaisalmer runs throughout, so you do not need to arrange separate transfers.
Day one carries most of the sightseeing. Mornings are the best time for the fort, when the lanes are cooler and quieter, and the havelis are a short walk or drive away. After lunch there is time to rest at your hotel or a café before the drive to the desert, timed so you reach the dunes before sunset.
Day two is relaxed. Early risers can walk onto the dunes at sunrise. After breakfast and check-out, the drive back to the city can include a short stop at Kuldhara or Bada Bagh if time allows, followed by drop at your hotel, the railway station or the airport.
This tour suits travellers on a tight schedule, couples looking for a short desert night, small families and groups of friends. Older guests can join comfortably if we plan shorter walks inside the fort and keep the safari optional.
If you can spare another day, the Jaisalmer City and Desert Tour adds a night in the city and a slower pace. For a city-only plan without an overnight stay, see our local Jaisalmer taxi tour packages.
Desert camps around Sam offer different tent styles, facilities and meal plans. We share the options available for your dates, and the camp you choose is named in the quotation. We coordinate with the camp; we do not own or operate it, so final facilities follow the selected camp’s package.
A camel safari or jeep safari can be added for the sunset, along with the cultural evening many camps host. Timings, suitability and weather are confirmed before booking.
Jaisalmer Fort is a living fort with narrow, uneven lanes. Comfortable shoes help, and some sections are only reachable on foot. In the hot months, we suggest moving the fort visit as early as possible and keeping the afternoon for rest before heading to the dunes.
Day 1
Pickup from your arrival point or hotel in Jaisalmer. Visit Jaisalmer Fort and its lanes, Patwon Ki Haveli and Gadisar Lake. After lunch, drive towards the Sam Sand Dunes. Optional camel or jeep safari at sunset, check-in at the selected desert camp, cultural programme where the camp offers one, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2
Optional sunrise walk on the dunes. Breakfast at the camp and check-out. Return drive to Jaisalmer with an optional stop at Kuldhara or Bada Bagh, subject to time. Drop at your hotel, the railway station, bus stand or airport.
It covers the main highlights: the fort, one haveli, the lake and the dunes. To see more havelis, Kuldhara and Bada Bagh at an easy pace, consider adding a night.
